DEX18 INDA-PARAMETER-SHARON

CU Pavillion

What is parameter? What is boundary? What is frontier?

These questions were the challenges we've got to observe and define throughout the week. As the definition of "campus" became blurred from the original thought back in the modernism movement, campus spatial quality need to be develop corresponding to the growth of the urban and civic. New parameter has been given to Chulalongkorn University, replacing the existence territory with new proposal, design for better efficiency in communication and communal interaction.

Sketches and Ideas

Parameter

The plan above shows the analysis of all the defined "parameter" and nearby context of Chulalongkorn Univerity around the site.

Progress

CU Pavilion

The idea of the pavilion came from the distortion of the grid by extracting the fishnet curves, the unique element from Rattanakosin architecture, to defines the circulation and program based on user activities and navigation routes.

Atmospheric View

The envelope was coated by translucent material to create sense of openness and connection between people from inside and outside. Multiple layers of panel create complexity in level of transparency.

DEX18 INDA-PARAMETER-Sharon

What defines a parameter of Chulalornkorn univerisity?

Our purpose is to define the parameters of CU university In our perception,
we define a parameter as cu pop bus line as the main one. Each bus stops are
designated to worth stopping as a spreading point. So we study more on each bus stop
of how many people hopping on and off and how far they can go that still feel the
sense of being in Chulalornkorn. The red circle is how far the CU students go.
And the green one is the  public stop and how far the general people go.

This diagram shows the 3D of the analysics of the secondary parameter.
The base of the mountain is how far people go. And the height is the density of
 people in each bus stop.

Then we see the blank space that every bus needs to pass that is at chulalornkorn main gate. So we proposed the sky walk and the gathering space open to public. We changed the street lane to be a bit curvy according to a shape of the exhinbition hall nearby the green hills that welcomes public and a bus stop area at the same time.

From the map, you can see that the topography or the hill park is not the same on 2 sides. The sides that near the ruby field is for a stand. Wild to see you library topography serves as the reading field with negative space for people to sit and relax at the shade from the above shelter.  The two parks or yours is not only for relaxing purpose but I’ll show for pedestrians to walk across
each side.

The street that is curved will slow down the traffic to be able to see more of the Chulalornkorn university and see through the exhibition hall at the same time.

CHULA PARCRIBBÓN

The project aims to violate the boundaries of Chulalongkorn University which are the fences and walls with a structure that accommodates programs related to pushing the Green Chula identity as well as bringing the experience of being inside campus to the boundaries.
The workshop began with sketches of how members of our group experienced the campus. Most of out experience of the campus happens within the actual Faculty of Architecture and had very little involvement with the boundaries.

This was followed by our trip towards the field which is the main focal point of the campus which in a way determines how the public experience the campus upon visiting the campus during events. From the very center of the field all the faculties and faculties within seemingly disappears and are obstructed by all the vegetation and trees as if the person viewing is within a jungle.

With the aim of breaching the perimeter of Chulalongkorn, the infrastructure must accommodate all existing programs along the boundary of Chulalongkorn including: public bus stops, bike stops, and motorcycle stops and shelter those under layers of vegetation as a mean to induce the notion of the jungle-like campus.
link
The form of the structure, that is to replace the fences, is a ribbon with its surface twisting/turning/bending at certain areas as determined by the activities occurring along the boundary as well as to avoid contacting any existing trees. Additional information about Chulalongkorn University can be integrated into the surface in the forms of projections and printed displays attached to the surface of the ribbon.

As a mean to increase the feeling of being sheltered under layers of vegetation the surface of the ribbons is to incubate multiple species of tall grasses, hanging plants and bushes.

While the current rendition of the project accommodate programs underneath the ribbon, further development can include leisure activity and resting area on the ribbon as well as at locations where two ribbons meet from opposite sides of the campus and lastly aperture on the surface.

DEX Workshop by Sharon Haar : Chula Gate

THE CHULA GATE

To extend the perimeter of Chulalongkorn university, Our study was based on the interactions of each faculties appeared in Chulalongkorn boundary. According to the studies their are some part of the Chulalongkorn that needs to be contact.

The Chula Gate was created to connect two sides of the Chulalongkorn boundary and extend Chula's perimeter towards the public. As it acts as a connection, underneath was filled with seats and work space for both students and pedestrian to freely used

At the top floor of the structure their are seats and roof to block winds and sound to create a space for pedestrians to rest and interact with the space

as the wall was eliminated along the structure the bottom part was leave as an open space for people passing in and out to create an invisible door as it seems
