DO Workshop : The colours of life by Pleng&Pung

THE COLOURS OF LIFE

Our intention of the project is that we thought students in Chulalongkorn University don't have many choices of about the area for spending
their free time. Thus, we want to turn a waste-area in our campus into a space that students can spend their free time relaxing in this space.

But why providing only a simple space?

As our site is located between Chulalongkorn's museum and the building of Art faculty. It is some kind of an empty opened land that
usually has no activities happen. So we want to purpose a space that allows each individual or group to interact with the spaces
through the differences of atmosphere in each zone by using the varieties of the use of colour and light.

Each space will define what people do. Defining the word, "relaxing" in different ways through the use of simple geometry and curves in each space's terrain. For example, a simple cube as a representative of a chair, so that when students come in they will automatically
think in their mind that they can use this space for sitting. We don't want to force what they need to do in each space, but instead,
we try to create a simple symbol to hint them what they can interplay with that specific part of our spaces.

SPACE ONE
A SLOPE TERRAIN WITH THE COLOUR PARTITIONS
EXPERIMENT ONE

In this space we create a simple slope as a terrain, then we try to put colour partitions spreading along the slope. But they weren't just randomly put in, if students walk along the space, they will see the different overlapping of colours happen by all partitions. Moreover, we try to
play with the idea of illusion in the space, for example, if they walk into the right position, they will see that all the partitions
are formed in shape of the English alphabets, C and U which refer to the words, Chulalongkorn's University.

SPACE TWO
A SLIDING CURVES WITH THE MIRROR REFLECTIONS
EXPERIMENT ONE

Coming to another zone of our space, this space we want to play with the reflection of mirrors that can give you a different perspective in
seeing things. For example, student standing in front of one mirror may see other students that standing in different position
through the reflections of the mirror. Thus, it allows students to see things in different ways and giving a
chance of interacting with other students that they might not know before. The first experiment,
we use the square or rectangular mirrors put in our structure that mimics the shape or trees.

The second experiment, we use thinner and longer shape of mirror, in order to
try and see different reflection between two experiments.

SPACE THREE

A SLIDING CURVES WITH THE MIRROR REFLECTIONS
EXPERIMENT ONE

For space three, we use the simple grid and cube to create a zone that has many cubes stacking corresponding to a grid, with the fabric that weaving above. Thus, students can sit or climb along the cubes and will see the different shadow of light in each part of the grid corresponding
to the weaving fabric on top that allows light to get in in some part.In experiment one, we try to set up
the rule of weaving fabric that only weave in the horizontal and vertical way.

In experiment two, the rule of weaving fabric is changing, it can go in diagonal ways too in order to
see the different of angle and position of shadow that happens with the space.

This is the example of a detailed model of our space, in order to see how
each space can be connected and coherent among each other.

In conclusion, our intention is to create a solid permanent terrain that has only simple geometry and curves to lead the way but not forcing student to interact with that spaces, combinding with a temporary activies that happen from the use of different colours and light in each space.
