Introduction
The kite project by Studio Akane Moriyama x INDA DEX Workshop 2018
Concept
Our concept is
the resulting effects of changing environment, which in this case, is the overlapping of
coloured surfaces.
The kite consists of several modules made up of different
colours to create variety in the displayed interfaces.
In different surrounding
situations, colours seen by each person in each position is different, so as
the ground shadow.
The form is kept simple yet displays a complex and varied
transformations upon the changing environment that involves wind as the main
mechanism.
Inspiration
One module of
our kite was derived from the tetrahedral kite structure — an extrude version
Prototypes
The earlier models of the kite of different scales using plastic bags and tracing papers as fabrics respectively
Testings
The prototype shows the kite's swaying motion
As a result, the module is then connected together to form a more rigid circular structure

Construction
Balloon sticks
are used as the structure, since it is flexible and proven to be unbreakable as
compared to wood.
To create a longer structure, two sticks are joined by the
inner insertion of the pvc tube, providing a stronger connection.
At the turning
joint, medium treads are used to attach sticks together by tying, allowing for
low chance of detachment yet versatile.
The two
cellophane papers of different colours is placed on a flat plane, to catch
light and cast shadow on the ground, while the hologram paper on a diagonal
surface furthermore transforms the pink and yellow cellophane surface into the other
colours when seen overlapping one another.
Additionally the papers are sewed to
create hollow for the sticks to pass through.
Assembly
+
Easily constructed
Inexpensive
Lightweight
Versatile
Unique!
The kite tends
to spin too random and excessive, thus unable to stay in air for long
The fabrics tear too easily

fabrics
Fly!
The kite physically responds wind from various directions while visually forming overlapping surfaces
