P I X E L S
Pixels is a DEX project concerning the designing and the production of a 3 dimensional kite. The idea behind PIXELS was to challenge the status quo of box kites. The design of traditional box kites are always symmetrical and we wanted to see if that was necessary. In addition to this, PIXELS, as the name suggests, was meant to be seen as a corruption of the sky or in essence a pixelated cloud. The strictly geometric yet asymmetrical form of the kite is to create a fluttering effect to enhance the visual impact in the sky that would suggest a corrupted sky.

Each member create their own individual collage to represent their own initial idea. Then we were formed group with 3 members who had some similar idea together.
1. First, this collage represented the idea of scale and perspective when we see the kite on the sky.
2. Second, this collage represented the idea of opacity and play with the gradient of material itself.
3. Third, the geometry kite which each module was connected to form the unique one.

Then we were brainstorming our idea and experiencing by making specific models
.
1. Experiencing how the transparent material and pattern work.
2. Experiencing the illusion materials and its overlapping between each layer.
3. Experiencing the kinetic system when it was adapted into kite structure.
4. Experiencing the arrangement and connection between different direction.

After we finalize the final idea which was the forth study model, we try to design various forms and find the best possible prototype.

| Link to full resolution The final production was used 48 wood stick to construct the structure including the sewing of 3 different textiles to make the complete cell. Then, we took the kite to the beach and test the quality of it. Finally, the pixels kite can actually fly on the sky for 11 seconds. Related video ( 0.26 - 0.37 ) |
