Bang Kachao Farmstay
The project aims for the better understand and experience of Bang Kachao. Therefore the design is based on the notion of locals meet visitors, existing environment connects to the built architecture, taking the tourists in an experience and living in the local style. We came up with the idea of farmstay where instead of staying at Bang Kachao, visitors will be home staying with the farmers or the locals doing farm activities such as doing agriculture and learning fish farming and way of living
Though the main programs in this project is farm-stay, we do not want to neglect the locals community and existing facilities and infrastructure on Bang Kachao. As the existing community is settled on one side of the canal, facing backward to our focus area, but we aim for the connection and interactions among the locals and visitors, therefore we came up with different designs for the accesses along the canal to bridge the existing and the new:
1. Entrance: where there is a Bang Kachao community center
2. Educational center: in the back of the school where all will be educated about plant species. Kids can play tree house and all learn about the water filtration system installed under the bridge.
3. Extending the walking path into to the community joining with the existing one. This path aims to create connections with the locals in a sense that the design is not just for the visitors but for the locals to be used.
As mentioned in the beginning, the farming activities, they will be taken place in the existing orchard area. The walking path passes through fall field creating a loop and branches further out to the educational center in the back of the school and further out to the frontier of Chaopraya broader.
Another circulation is the bike lane where it’s settled on the boarders of the agriculture fields. This circulation intersects with the pedestrian path at some points as they’re on the same elevation level though indicated by the use of materials. The bike lane is concrete while the walkway is wood material.
Typology of the cluster of new buildings follow the same style found in the community where there’s a main path cut through. Some houses face this path while the ones behind have their own path leading to their entrances.
