Fruitastic Mask
Agriculture had been the root of
Thai economy since the time we’re known as a nation. It is a fundamental factor
that triggers the Thailand economic development through export. The agriculture
sector itself actually became the base of the country’s transition from
agricultural development to industrialize. According to Singhapreecha, the
agriculture sector has also been bid up by the manufacturing sector where the
limited amount of land and natural resources are taken away to use for
industrial purposes. It had been estimated that the economy of the
manufacturing sector grew at the average annual rate of 7.07 percent whereas the
agriculture sector at 4.61 percent. Now that the country had become more
industrialize common people pay less attention to the importance of Thai
agriculture and its delicate production process. The impact of products and the
importance of the agriculture sector became less significant or even
overlooked.
The materials use to create the
mask are taken from many of the Thai’s agriculture products including fruits
and herbs. Each type of the fruits and vegetation are products that are
produced in different parts of Thailand. By using creating mask using material
from the fruits and herb, hopefully it will draw people attention and help raise
awareness of the importance of Thai agriculture.
Choosing the fruits and herb as the
materials for the mask have lots of advantage. Firstly, the products came in
different shapes, size, and texture. For examples, durian have sharps edges,
Rambutan have hairy surfaces, and some other surface are much more smooth. This
allows person who is touching the mask to experience the different reaction
toward the surface depending on which one they are touching.
The fruit on the mask are arranged according to their texture. Product with most rough texture will be placed at the top the down to the smoother surface. Then the user wearing the mask will started to feel the texture of the mask. It is assumed that the use will quickly touch the rough part of the mask and move down to a smoother area to find the comfortable area, where they could hold the mask. The pictures below are showing the moment where a person is experiencing the mask.
